Shelley Schwerdt has been involved in the German Shorthaired Pointer breed for 60 plus years.  She is a member in good standing with the GSPCA and a lifetime member of the GSPC of Washington.

Shelley grew up in Northern California where her family were avid hunters of upland birds and deer.  Shelley’s father brought home the family’s first GSP in 1959 who was a German import.  Her family bred both GSPs and English Setters for the sole purpose of hunting.

Shelley’s husband and Shelley successfully bred GSPs, (Sageflyer), over the past 30 plus years, focusing on the dog that is competitive in the show ring, able to successfully run in hunt tests/field trials, hunt wild game and be a loving family companion.  Shelley and her husband were proud to be the breeders of the first AKC GSP Triple CH, Field Champions, Master, Senior and Junior Hunt Test titled get, Nationals BOW and both American and Canadian champions. Shelley’s husband has passed away and she is no longer breeding but still loves the breed and enjoys supporting the preservation of the breed any way that she can.  She currently shares her home with one GSP and 2 Chihuahuas.

Currently Shelley serves on the GSPCA Judges Education Committee and was on the committee that worked with the AKC to create the Canine College online course on the GSP.  She has enjoyed the opportunity to preserve and protect our amazing breed and to share her knowledge and experience with those interested in judging GSPs.
